This was an outdoor festival in Wolverhampton, there were about 7,000 fans there, so it must rank as Slade's biggest ever gig in their home town. Slade topped the bill and were supported by Diamond Head and The Eric Bell Band.
A young French girl called Laurent Lesage (aged 17) got all the attention at the gig, she had written to the Wolverhampton Council saying she was a very big Slade fan, and that she'd never met the band, the council said that if she arranged travel to the U.K., they'd get her to meet the band (which was done by both parts), Laurent meets Slade backstage, it was an interesting meeting, as she was really shy and couldn't speak a word of English. She was a very big Dave Hill fan, and as soon as she was introduced to him
she just hugged him tight.
The gig is good and tight.Their newest single "Knuckle Sandwich Nancy" was played (which never had any U.K. chart success), their latest album was "We'll Bring The House Down" of which they played their song of same title, plus "Wheels Ain't Coming Down", "When I'm Dancin' I Ain't Fightin'", Dizzy Mama" and "I'm A Rocker" there is a good version of ZZ Tops "Waiting For The Bus" played by Dave, plus their oldies but good "Take Me Bak 'ome", "Gudbuy T'Jane" and Steppenwolfs "Born To Be Wild" just to name a few, the crowd thoroughly enjoyed themselves and another rock 'n' rollin' night was had by all.
My sound rating for this is 8/10
