"Let's Call It Quits" was written by lead singer Noddy Holder and bassist Jim Lea and produced by Chas Chandler. The single was released via Polydor Record Label on 30th January 1976.
This single reached number 11 on the U.K. chart, spending 7 weeks on the U.K. chart. The single became Slade’s last U.K. top 20 hit for 5 years until the 1981 single "We’ll Bring The House Down" was released.
"Let's Call It Quits" appeared on their 1976 album "Nobody's Fools".
Background
The single was released to limited success within Europe as the single failed to make an impact within usual loyal countries such as Netherlands, Austria and Germany, again like the previous single "In for A Penny". Slade's popularity was further declining, particularly because the band were living and touring in America, trying to crack the market there.
Recording
"Let's Call It Quits" was released via Polydor Record Label on 30th January 1976.
And was the band's 17th top 20 single in a row.
A return to the usual Slade style, it was the 2nd single from their "Nobody's Fools" album, and like its predecessor "In For A Penny" it stopped 1 place short of the top 10.
Release
"Let's Call It Quits" was originally released on 7" vinyl.
Upon release, Record Mirror magazine gave the single a thumbs up, symbolising a hit. The magazine wrote "1 of Slade's best. A slow, heavy rocker with rude words that are just about oblique enough to get by on any radio play and some deliciously lascivious guitar, the whole beautifully produced by Chas Chandler."
Promotion
A promotional music video was made for this single of the group performing the song on a black and white chequered floor, surrounded by gigantic mirrors, giving some interesting camera effects. Vocalist / co writer Noddy Holder wore his American cop hat and 'Dirty Old Men...' t shirt, guitarist Dave Hill had on his studded and rhinestoned dungarees, and a full length coat. Chas Chandler was disappointed with the video, just like the video for the band's 1975 single "Thanks For The Memory (Wham Bam Thank You Mam)".
Also the band returned from touring in America to perform the song on the U.K. shows Supersonic and Jim'll Fix It. Reportedly, the song was also performed on an unknown German TV show.

When The Chips Are Down
"When The Chips Are Down" written by Holder and Lea, this was the b - side to Slades original single "Let's Call It Quits".
It is possibly 1 of their best b - sides, fast and furious and loud just like Slade should be. This song was used for their documentary "6 Days On The Road" with slightly different lyrics, which was a hour long documentary of Slade on the road, with loads of chatter between the band and a real insight into what it was like for them to be out and about on tour.
Sadly, the hit singles dried up after this single and it would be another 5 years before Slade would return to the top 20.
