"The Bangin’ Man" was written by lead singer Noddy Holder and bassist Jim Lea and produced by Chas Chandler. The single was released via Polydor Record Label on 28th June 1974.
This single reached number 3 on the U.K. chart, the 1st week on the chart, the single peaked at number 4 and stayed in the top 10 for 4 weeks.
"The Bangin’ Man" was issued as a non album single.

Background
The single returned to a more rock based sound unlike the previous ballad single "Everyday". The track was written while on tour in Australia and once again innuendo was rampant in the lyrics. The song was about being woken up by room maids after partying while on tour. Commonly mistaken, many fans thought the song's lyrics related to the band's drummer Don Powell but the song actually spoke of Graham "Swinn" Swinnerton, Slade's longtime tour manager.
"The Bangin' Man" was produced by Chas Chandler as was the b - side "She Did It To Me". The b - side was originally exclusive to the single, eventually being released on CD via the 2007 Salvo compilation "B - Sides".

Recording
"The Bangin’ Man" was released via Polydor Record Label on 28th June 1974.
And was the band's 12th top 20 single in a row.
Record Mirror magazine reviewed the single upon release. "Here the lads are counted in with a 1, 2, 3 and Noddy Holder sets the scene of a man in a hotel, unable to recall much of what happened the night before, and the lady beside him locks herself in the bathroom, and enter "The Banging Man", hammering away on the door. Ah, the joys and perils of pop scene touring! It's a dramatically direct commercial song, by Noddy Holder and Jim Lea, plenty of space for guitar work, and with Noddy Holder working fir to raise the dead. Good flip, too - "She Did It To Me" is slower, more deliberate - chart certainty."

Release
"The Bangin’ Man" was originally released on 7" vinyl.
Shortly after release, the single was given a Silver Disc for sales of over 250,000.
The Record Mirror polls of early 1975 voted "The Bangin' Man" within the top 10 singles poll.
The song appeared on the American version of their 1974 album "Slade In Flame", which was released via Warner Bros. record label during 1975.

Promotion
No promotional video was filmed for the single. Like the band's previous single "Everyday", the band were too busy with touring to film a video. At the time, Slade were now busy with their world tour and once again didn't have time to record a video. This was a disaster, as due to a strike at the BBC, Top of The Pops was off the air, thus the single received no coverage at all. This was thought to be a major cause of the single only reaching number 3 on the U.K. chart, whilst Charles Aznavour with 'She' reached the top.
At the time of release, the song was performed on the U.K. TV show Supersonic and the German TV show Disco.
In 1977, the band performed the song on East German TV where the group also mimed several other previous hits, as well as each member being interviewed.

Chart Performance
"The Bangin’ Man" reached number 3 on the U.K. chart.

She Did It To Me
"She Did It To Me" written by Holder and Lea, this was the b - side to Slades original single "Bangin' Man".
This was a non album track, only exclusive as a b - side to "The Bangin' Man" single.
Eventually being released on CD via the 2007 Salvo compilation "B - Sides". "She Did It To Me" is a very powerful piano based ballad, and maybe should have been released as an a - side and possibly been a big hit ?
