Slade were at the height of their fame, it was their first Australian tour although they had three singles in the chart and their LP "Slade Alive" had been top of the album charts for the past six months. It was still top the charts when they arrived. When they came off of the plane they were greeted by a crowd of press and TV crews sporting a wheelbarrow full of Fosters lager. The crowds averaged around 30,000 plus for Slades Australian tour.
The concert was played in the pouring rain and Don said
"...60,000 people in the pouring rain, it hadn't rained for 30 years. All the newspapers the next day were saying Slade brought rain to Australia."
This concert also attracted the Australian skin head community (although Slade had lost that image)
Their gig contained 4 off their U.K. number 1's "Gudbuy T'Jane" "Coz I Luv You" "Take Me Bak 'ome" & "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" plus such others as "Hear Me Calling", Janis Joplins "Move Over"
and "Get Down And Get With It" which the crowd certainly did.
Slade went down a storm (pardon the pun).
